What You Can Do Now!

Our project will officially start on July 1, 2012 - when we will have 5 years left to help collect, share and preserve 1.5 million memories and stories.

You don’t have to wait until then!

There are a few things you can do right now!

  1. 1.You can read the FREE online book Recording Your Life and Family Stories. You can print off any of the pages you like. That means you can start recording your stories immediately.

  1. 2.You can check the LINKS page for websites you may find very helpful. Enjoy your learning as you become an even greater expert on your family and community histories.

  1. 3. You can learn more about the Canada 150 project by checking out:

  1. 4.You can check out our BLOG and sign up for the RSS feed which automatically tells your email account when we have added a new entry.

  1. 5. If you have already written a book or digital book, you are required by law to deposit two copies in Library and Archives Canada where they will be preserved for ever! For more details go to: Legal Deposit in General and Legal Deposit for Online Publications.

  1. 6. All materials not covered in these two areas, e.g. “one-of-a-kind” unpublished materials, art, etc. would be a potential acquisition. Acquisitions are evaluated once a material has been created, on a case-by-case basis.  The specific criteria for this are in Library and Archives Canada Acquisition Orientation Instrument (still a draft, not finalized as yet).

  1. 7. You may be interested to read Daniel J. Caron,
    Librarian and Archivist of Canada’s
remarks on the Canada’s 150th anniversary.

  1. 8.You can become a local “Ambassador” by telling your family and friends about our project and encouraging them to start recording their life and family stories.

  1. 9. If you are a professional writer, editor, printer, publisher, film maker, multi-media producer, photographer, videographer, musician, and/or artist, you can begin to help Canadians record their life and family stories. Use the free online book above as a starting point. Offer people your professional help for a reasonable fee and share in their excitement as they prepare materials for their descendants and for their country. Don’t forget to record your own stories for the project as well!
