How It Will Work

We are still in the beginning stages of our project. Once we have built our national collaboration up to our high standards we will provide the following services over the last five years of the project:

1. National leadership, promotion and co-ordination of services for the campaign. Canada 150 is not in competition with other groups involved in oral history, story-telling, recording or publishing. The campaign will work with other organizations who share our common goal of helping people record their stories and who may want to share in the success of a national, not-for-profit campaign to celebrate those stories.

2. Train-the-trainer programs to groups interested in having in-house facilitation of story-telling and recording. For example, libraries, veterans’ branches, retirement facilities, sports associations, corporations and schools may want several members to learn how to help other members record their stories.

3. Our own educational workshops/courses for individuals interested in recording their stories. Any net profits would be used to help individuals and groups unable to afford such programs.

4. This website with: information on the project; local programs and facilitators; commercial and not-for-profit vendors, publishers, video/audio tape producers; contact people for media; examples of people's stories to inspire others. The website will also become a vehicle for collecting some of the material.

5. Speaker/Trainers' bureau.

6. Network for media contacts.

7. Alliances with folk festivals, multicultural events and similar public-awareness venues to help promote the recording of family stories.
